Acoustic Design and Noise Protection Course code: 161107 | 6 ECTS credits

Basic information
Level of Studies: Undergraduate applied studies
Year of Study: 2
Semester: 4
Requirements:
Goal: The goal of the course is to familiarize students with the acoustic characteristics of the rooms as well as the possibilities and ways of controlling their acoustic parameters in order to reduce the noise level, ensure the optimal time of reverberation, diffusion, ineligibility of speech and the fullness of the music signal. Acquiring the necessary knowledge for designing sound insulation and acoustic of rooms for various purposes such as: living rooms, classrooms, conference rooms, theaters, concert and cinemas, studios and control rooms.
Outcome: After the course, the students are able to apply the acquired knowledge to design sound insulation and acoustic, as well as settings of various rooms for the preparation, recording and reproduction of audio signals.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Basic concepts and definitions of physical acoustics
  2. The phenomena that accompany the propagation of sound waves
  3. Sound field in the closed spaces
  4. Measurement and prediction of speech intelligibility
  5. Acoustic elements (reflectors, absorbers and diffusers)
  6. Principles of sound protection against air and structural noise
  7. Criteria and standards for noise protection
  8. Acoustic division of rooms and basic parameters of their quality
