Goal: Acquiring knowledge from basic parameters that affect the transmission of speech and data in communication systems, from the technologies and standards of networked systems.
Outcome: Training for design and realization of computer networks of smaller size and complexity.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introductory lecture. Time domain, frequency domain, Fourier analysis, analog and digital data transmission, transmission parameters, noise .. Encoding. NRZL, Manchester, AMI Analog modulation AM, FM, PM;
  2. Digital modulation ASK, FSK, PSK. Spread Spectrum techniques FSS, DSS;
  3. Sampling Theorem. Impulse code modulation. Frequency, time and code multiplex. Modems, xDLS technology, cable distribution systems.
  4. Transmission media: wired and wireless.
  5. Flow control, sliding window, error control.
  6. Local computer networks according to IEEE standards: IEEE 802.1 - IEEE.3 (Ethernet).
  7. Wireless Networks: IEEE 802.11 (WiFi); IEEE 802.15 (Bluetooth, ZigBee).
  8. Hubs, switches and routers. Collision and emission domains.
  9. Internet protocol IPv4, subnetting, ARP protocol.
  10. CIDR and VLSM Techniques.
  11. Internet Protocol IPv6. Static and dynamic address allocation.
  12. Virtual local area network, spanning tree protocols, security and intranet attacks.
  13. Direct and indirect routing, distance vector and link-state routing algorithms.
  14. Transport layer protocols; TCP and UDP protocols.
  15. Application layer protocols.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. In the laboratory, the administration of networked computers under Windows and Linux operating systems, the public presentation of the project of the structural cabling. The course program complies with the IEEE/ACMComputingCurriculum: CE2016 Computer Engineering Body of Knowledge: CE-NWK 1-6,CE-NWK9, 11 IT2008 Information Technology Body of Knowledge: IT-NET.
