Goal:
Outcome: Students will be trained to identify security flaws in network infrastructures, implement and administer computer network security mechanisms.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Basic concepts: threats, attacks, vulnerabilities, security goals and services.
  2. The concept and problem of safety and security models.
  3. Cryptography and cryptographic protocols.
  4. Computer networks access control - firewalls.
  5. Intrusion detection systems.
  6. Machine learning based intrusion detection systems.
  7. Biometric systems.
  8. SPAM filtering.
  9. Processing metadata and social networks using graphs.
  10. Database and Web application security.
  11. Selected security aspects of programming.
  12. Context free grammars and genetic algorithms.
  13. An approach to fuzzy software testing.
  14. Concluding remarks.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Students are trained to implement cryptographic mechanisms, administer access control mechanisms, firewalls and IDS systems, as they are introduced to procedures for identifying software product vulnerabilities and handling incidents caused by malicious programs.
