Requirements:
Goal: Within this course, information systems will be analysed in general, and the purpose and usage of different types of information systems will be explained.
Outcome: At the end of the course, students will gain knowledge of information systems in general, as well as the usage of information systems for different purposes.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introduction to information systems, system definition and elements.
  2. Hardware, software, application software.
  3. System components and classification.
  4. Information systems architecture.
  5. Database management systems.
  6. Transaction and analytic information systems, storage systems.
  7. Data mining.
  8. Electronic documents management systems.
  9. Decision support systems.
  10. Business information systems.
  11. Web as a global information system.
  12. Internet and Web applications.
  13. Knowledge management systems, artificial intelligence and expert systems.
  14. Multimedia and virtual reality information systems.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Hands-on labs follow theoretical lessons and take place in a computer laboratory.
