Requirements:
Goal: The objective of the course is to familiarize with basic theoretical aspects of high level process control and mastering practical knowledge in designing systems for supervisory control, monitoring and data acquisition.
Outcome: As the outcome of the course, students will be trained in programming and maintaining systems for supervisory control, monitoring and data acquisition.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introduction to distributed control systems.
  2. Data acquisition in real time control systems.
  3. Classification and basics of SCADA systems.
  4. Communication protocols.
  5. Security protocols.
  6. Overview of the basic principles of PLC programming.
  7. Options and solutions for designing a SCADA application.
  8. Getting acquainted with the TIA Portal software package.
  9. Organization of Siemens PLC internal memory. Data blocks.
  10. Functions and Function blocks in the TIA Portal software package.
  11. Organization blocks.
  12. Variables and data types.
  13. Setting up alarms.
  14. Trends. Graphical representation of measured variable.
  15. Supervisory control and data analysis.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. During laboratory exercises, students are able to independently monitor and test their own software solutions on available software packages and models of real time processes.
