Goal:This module is degigned to provide students with transferable skills and knowledge in electrical engineering materials and components.
Outcome:After successful completion of this module studenst should acquire fundamental knowledge on various types of electrical engineering materials and passive electronic components components.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
1. Basic terms of material structure and their properties. The atomic structure of the material. The structure of the atom. Chemical bonds. Aggregate phases. Crystal lattice. Defects in crystals.
2. Division of electrical materials. Electrical properties of materials. Engineering the energy gap.
3. Semiconductor microstructure, essential exponent, the application.
4. Conductors: microstructure, essentail exponent, the application.
5. Superconductors: microstructure, essential exponent, the application.
6. Dielectrics microstructure, essential exponent the application.
7. Magnetic microstructure, essential exponent, the application.
8. Methods and apparatus for testing materials used in electrical engineering.
Tutorials are performed in the hardware lab with the active students’ engagement. Students independently or with the tutor’s assistance solve the tasks in the field of passive components, power and fiber optic cables.
