Goal:The goal of the course is to enable students to master the basics of acoustics.
Outcome:The outcome of the course is that students are trained to independently solve elementary problems of physical, room and physiological acoustics.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
Basic concepts of physical acoustics.
Sound wave. Sound pressure.
Wavelength and frequency. Sound intensity.
Mutual radiating of several sound sources.
Sound level. Refraction and diffraction. Absorption coefficient.
Basic concepts of physiological acoustics. Sense of hearing. External, middle and inner ear.
Sound perception. Speech mechanism.
Noise and sound insulation.
Basic concepts of room acoustics. Sound field. Absorption and diffusion.
Reverberation time. Sound intensity in the rooms. Sound absorbers - materials and constructions.
Electrical-mechanical-acoustical analogies.
Basic concepts of electro-acoustics. Microphones. Speakers. Headphones.
