Goal:Gaining knowledge about basic principles in telecommunications regarding spectral analysis, signal processing and transsmission as well as quality of telecommunication link. Introduction to digital transmission systems.
Outcome:Understanding of signal processing and transmission techniques. Gaining knowledge necessary for understanding topics in digital telecommunications.
Contents of the course
Introductory lecture (organization and course syllabus, relation to other courses).
Telecommunication system model. Information, measure of the information.
Signals and spectra. Periodic and aperiodic functions (signals).
Fourier series and Fourier transform signal analysis.
Transfer function and impulse response of linear time-invariant systems. Distortion in linear and nonlinear systems.
Signal processing: amplitude modulation – AM, types of AM and their properties.
Angle modulation: frequency modulation – FM and phase modulation – PM.
Pulse modulation: PAM, PDM, PPM.
Sampling theorem, quantization and pulse coded modulation.
